My Closet Is More Fashionable With These Items
I love working on articles with Who What Wear, and you can imagine how honored I am when asked for my “advice” on fashion and styles. My partnership with WWW is over three years old now, and I continue to be extremely proud to be affiliated with them. Recently, my friend and Senior Editor Bobby Schuessler asked me which items in my closet make my outfits more fashionable. After sorting through my closet over the past couple of weeks, I’ve zeroed in on which pieces make my wardrobe more fashionable. You might notice that the items I’ve selected are ones I’ve been mentioning regularly. For example, a sweater and slip skirt is a favorite combo, and right now, it’s a super stylish option. Of course, leather jackets and striped sweaters are also essentials, and they make easy, effortless outfits. Remember to focus on the items you truly love and feel good in! In my opinion, it’s actually better to have fewer pieces — this makes getting dressed much much easier.

Who doesn’t love a classic striped sweater? It adds effortless French chic to pretty much anything you wear. Always stylish and fun, a striped sweater never goes out of style. Right now, there are many options at all price points — try one in cashmere for a luxe but casual flair. Two of my favorites include this Nordstrom one and this designer-inspired one. And, just last night, I purchased this J.Crew one for my trip today!
Stylish Slip Skirt

Investing in a fashionable slip skirt to wear with cozy sweaters and boots (or sandals, depending on the weather) is a great idea for fall. It’ll feel like a new look, and it’s super stylish and comfortable. These will become your go-to outfits, I guarantee it. My favorite slip skirts are the J.Crew ones below, along with these ones by Vince that are super flattering.
Cool Leather Jacket

Leather is so luxe, and it doesn’t really matter if you go for faux or the real thing. Many of us can’t tell the difference! I would say with conviction that this is THE piece that will level up all your fall outfits. Plus, a leather jacket is just … cool. If you don’t have one yet, try one of the ones below. You’ll wear it more often than you think 😉

This is the trending color of the season, and I can’t remember a time when I’ve seen so many great pieces in brown. Whether you are looking for a bag or a boot or a beautiful sweater or coat, take advantage of the many shades and fabrics available. You’ll look current and ready for fall!

This time of year, depending on where you live, your outerwear becomes an important part of your wardrobe. Once you have the basics covered in this category, try adding something a little different! Whether it’s a color you love or a tweed style, you’ll feel a little extra every time you wear it.
Boots, Boots, Boots

It’s full-on boot season, which is always exciting. Most of us love boots, and will wear them for several months to come! So, investing in boots you’ll wear all the time is really important. Try a pointy-toe style like I’m wearing above, or a newer shape like the Toteme ankle boot. These will instantly elevate all your fall (and winter) outfits. The heel shape is modern, and they are super super comfy. I also LOVE these J.Crew boots, and they look really similar to the Toteme ones.
Fun Feathers

I recently splurged on this feather-trimmed dress for a special event, and I felt sooo good in it! Since then, I’ve been seeing feathers everywhere. J.Crew has a pretty shirt with feathers, and there are sweaters and even accessories with feathers. This is a special detail that makes a big statement. I LOVE this dress – it looked amazing when I saw it in person at the LTK event. I also think this sweater is super cute and same with this cotton shirt from J.Crew.
