Shoes for fall to go with: Gray coat, similar | Frame short sleeved sweater | Frame coated denim | Gucci sandals | Chloe tote
These are the 9 shoes you need this fall
Every September, as the season starts to change, we all find ourselves in a shoe quandary! Summer sandals no longer feel right, but we’re not quite ready for full-on boots. This leaves many of us, including myself, unsure about which shoes to wear with our fall outfits. We need an “in-between” shoe, one that transitions easily from summer to fall … think sneakers, mules and loafers that work now, and will keep looking good as we move further into the season later.
In order to solve this problem, I was determined to find every transitional shoe you need for all your fall outfits. Consider everything from boots and clogs to sneakers and loafers, as well as the most stylish shoes for all your dressy events. These are the 7 shoes you need this fall, and it’s all in this post — I’m certain you’ll find a few you love! Keep reading to see what’s new, and which shoes will work with every fall outfit!
P.S. I’m working on another YouTube video which will be published this week (I said that last week, but now it’s ready)! If you’d like to see the other videos, click here. Finally, if you’re new around here and want to stay up to date on new arrivals and all things stylish, then subscribe to my blog and never miss a post!

Sneakers, of course 😉
Left: Reiss leather jacket | Hoodie, similar | Mother Dazzler jeans | Golden Goose Ball Star sneakers | Balenciaga tote | Right: Cinq A Sept blazer | White jeans | Alexander McQueen sneakers | YSL tote | Agolde tank
For the last few years, I’ve lived in sneakers. They’re not only stylish (a must in my book!), but they’re practical too. In other words, they work any time of year for travel, daily wear, and even for going out (sometimes). They’re also great for when it’s raining — especially Golden Goose, since they’re a little distressed. My new favorite Golden Goose sneakers are the Ball Stars — they’re super comfy, and there’s a good selection here. These Alexander McQueens have a cool wedge, and they’re also a little edgy, which is always fun. I also love the brand Veja, and these Sam Edelmans are a good option for a reasonable price point.
Black sandals
Left: J.Crew polo | Mother jeans | Gucci sandals | YSL bag | Necklaces: here, here and here | Right: J.Crew cardigan | Aritzia trousers | Vince wedge sandal | Chloe tote
A black sandal that covers your foot a little more than a thin, strappy one feels like the perfect transition shoe. And, if the heel is a wedge or a block heel, then it’s easier to wear with casual outfits and get a little height at the same time — if you need it 😉 The Vince wedge sandals I’m wearing above left are SO incredibility comfortable, you might want to try them. The Gucci sandals above right are another shoe that is perfect for most months of the year, and you’ll love the gold details — they elevate your look without being over the top.
Ankle Boots and knee boots
Left: Vince sweater | Mother Dazzler jeans | Boots | Chloe tote | Right: J.Crew sweater | Mother faux leather pant | Black scarf, similar | Stuart Weitzman boot | Balenciaga wallet on chain
Every year, I like to update my boot collection with a new bootie, and this year I have my eye on this one. For dressier boots, the Stuart Weitzman ones pictured above have been amazing and I’ll be wearing them again this year. For casual styles, I still love love the Rag & Bone Rover bootie. The heel height is perfect and you’ll feel comfortable all day long. The newest trend in boots this season is a knee style, and the one that’s seen everywhere is this one by Balenciaga. Yes, it’s edgy, but it’s super cool. (For more wearable styles, look at this one.) Grab your boots early in the season, as this allows for a longer wearing time 🙂

Everyday boots
White shoes
Cashmere sweater | Mother Weekender | White boots | Givenchy bag | Poppy Finch necklace
A white boot is on my list this season (love this one), because white shoes and accessories look so cool! The street style photo above is one of my favorites. Whether you’re going for a boot or white loafer, you’ll wear them all the time — trust me. I included white loafers in the latest fall capsule, click here to see.
Flats, loafers and ballet shoes
Loafers are everywhere this fall, and they’re pretty much the perfect shoe to wear when transitioning seasons — spring or fall. I love this iconic Gucci one — it’s a splurge, but you’ll wear it on repeat. If you want to get the look for less, check out this one, which is Gucci-inspired. Lately, I’ve noticed ballet shoes are back with a vengeance, and to be honest, they’re really cute. See below for a few more favorites!

Pumps and slingbacks

You gotta love a good simple pump, and there are so many great options! Slingbacks are a current style to own, and you can’t go wrong with either a neutral pair or a great classic black – in any height. Veronica Beard just came out with these, and of course, I always like a designer pair like these.

Pumps
Strappy sandals
J.Crew trench | Frame flare jeans | Veronica Beard sandals, similar
Strappy sandals are a year round staple. I know they aren’t practical for rainy or snowy days, but the rest of the time, they work just fine 🙂 One or two neutral pairs will cover many outfits, and they work nicely with both dresses and denim. Right now, I’m loving metallics like this and these Schutz ones have been my go-to for the last year!
Cute Clogs
Plaid jacket | Anine Bing t-shirt | Mother Dazzler denim | Clogs | YSL puffer
Talk about the cool-girl shoe to own for Fall 2022! These have been on runways everywhere, from Gucci to Hermés. And not only are they super stylish, but I can’t think of a more practical shoe! Just slip on and slip off. My personal favorites are the No. 6 clogs I’m wearing above. They’re foot-flattering (!!) and super comfortable.
Metallic shoes
Vince puff sleeve blouse – on sale | Mother Hustler jeans | Paige sandals | Valentino bag
This is another trend that’s everywhere, and talk about a great neutral! Yes, metallics can be considered a “neutral” but they up your game instantly. Find a metallic strappy sandal, boot or loafer you love, and you can pair them with anything. So chic, and perfect for the new season ahead!
