Wear now, wear later: How to make your wardrobe work!

This past weekend, my Nordstrom 6 friends and I shared ideas on how to style our favorite items to wear now and again later. It’s always my intention to write a post before I produce the video, since many of you are interested in the items featured. But the truth is, I’m not that organized, and the creativity often comes as I’m actually filming! In case you missed it, click here to view the IGTV.

I believe in purchasing pieces that can not only be worn multiple ways, but also worn for most seasons. This has always been my philosophy, but it resonates now more than ever. These days we all desire to buy less but to still have several outfit options. Keep reading to see how I take 5 key items to create outfits that can be worn now, and again later. And I must confess, there are several pieces that are from a couple of seasons ago. I’m sorry for that, but hey, I have to be careful what I purchase too! I’ll note where that’s the case, and offer a solid option as an alternative.

P.S. We’ve had a little explosion of growth lately, so if you’re new around here and want to stay up to date on all things stylish and the bound-to-sell-out items we ALL need, then subscribe here and never miss a post! You can also follow me on Instagram here. As always, please text, dm, or email me with any questions. I’m always happy to share any and all information that will be helpful to you!

#1 Vuori Jogger

If you haven’t bought these yet, I’m going to kindly suggest you do, because I’m 99.9% sure you’ll love them! You might be thinking “I already have workout pants.” That’s great, but that’s not what these are for! Yes, they’re made from performance fabric, and yes they are sold in the active department. And likely the Vuori brand would tell me I’m wrong, but you probably can work out in them 😂 These joggers are great because you can style them several ways, and look like a cool girl out and about running errands or hanging with friends. Read the post here.

Wear Now: Add your favorite denim jacket – I love this Madewell, or this one by Levi’s. During the summer, add a comfy slide sandal. My favorites are these Valentino flip flops or these Sam Edelmans

Wear Later: A simple black jacket, like this one by Kenneth Cole, is a great option when the weather changes. And, it doesn’t look like you just came from the gym (it runs roomy so size down). Adding a cool pair of sneakers makes your look stylish and comfy. Recently, I splurged on a pair of Golden Goose sneakers, which I’ve been wearing non stop. The brand P448, is very similar for way less. And of course, Nike or Adidas are both super cool options as well.

#2 Frank & Eileen white shirt + Madewell 9″ skinny

Frank & Eileen “Joedy” shirt | Madewell 9″ skinny | Valentino Flip Flop | YSL bag | Gucci sunnies

This shirt and Madewell skinnies have been staples all year long! In the winter I add a cardigan, like this favorite J.Crew style, and in the summer it’s perfect with sandals.

Wear Now: Flip flops or slide sandals and your favorite cross body bag

Wear Later: Camel bootie (I was wearing this one by Vince Camuto). The camel coat I was wearing in the IGTV video is several years old, but this one is very similar. Add a leopard face mask like this one from Veronica Beard, and you’ll be ready to go!

#3 Dress and booties

Black dress, older – similar here | Rag & Bone booties | Givenchy bag | Gucci sunnies

Dresses and booties are a timeless pairing, especially if you have somewhere to wear it!

Wear Now: During the summer, I suggest a white bootie, like this or this, similar to what I wore in the IGTV video, with this favorite snake print dress

Wear Later: In the winter, these Rag & Bones are favorites to wear with dresses. If it’s really cold, I recommend adding sheer black hosiery. Stay warm and stylish!

#4 Mother brand “Dazzler”

Left: Camo top | Black jeans | Schutz sandals | Gucci sunnies | Right: Similar jacket | Black scarf | Veronica Beard face mask | Black booties

Mother Brand denim is a favorite of all of us. These black Dazzler jeans are probably the most worn jeans in my closet! They’re stretchy and comfy, and the slim straight leg is super stylish. Pro tip: not all dazzlers are the same. I’ve noticed the rise is different depending on the wash, so choose wisely.

Wear Now: Wearing a sandal like this Schutz one above (or any other one you like) with any summer top always works well

Wear Later: Adding a bootie and jacket like the ones above will give you outfits for days. Try switching out your bag or scarf for a completely different look. The Nordstrom cashmere blend scarf is one of those items I think every single person needs, unless you’re allergic to wool 😉

#5 Mother “Weekender”

White tank| Sweater over shoulders | Mother denim | Mules | Mansur Gavriel bag | Face mask

I can’t say enough about these flare jeans, I wrote about them the other day here. It’s so nice to have another denim option, and this style makes our legs look way longer!

Wear Now: This Michael Stars tank is perfect – not too thin, very versatile and a little forgiving. Having a cardigan on hand in case it gets cold is a good idea, and throwing it over your shoulders is a casual way to look stylish!

Wear Later: Adding a camel or black jacket similar to this one or this one makes for a polished look.
